SAGE RI is pleased to announce the LGBT History Club
The club meets once a month on the 4th Wednesday from 2-4pm at the Church of the Transfiguration in Cranston, 1665 Broad St., Cranston, R.I. Please join us to share stories and memorabilia or just to listen to all of our great LGBT history. All are welcome. There will be snacks and beverages.
LGBT Seniors Wanted
For Focus Groups to Discuss Community Building and Sharing Needs and Concerns
Can you help us? We at SAGE-RI (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders) are looking for 8 – 10 LGBT older adults (age 60+) to meet for pizza and conversation about needs and concerns they might have as they age in their communities. We will have group meetings held in each of four communities: Woonsocket, Providence, Aquidneck Island, and South County. The groups will most likely be held on a Monday in February or March at noon in a place that is easily accessible with parking. We want to invite any seniors who are not already affiliated with SAGE-RI to join us to help identify the needs and issues that arise as we grow older and offer suggestions as to what resources might be helpful. This project is funded by a grant from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation Momentum Fund.
Please contact Pat email@example.com, if interested or for more information.

Promoting Quality Care for LGBT Older Adults: Issues and Strategies
Up Coming Workshops
A series of workshops for promoting quality of care for LGBT older adults will be held in March and April 2020. Relevant topics will be explored in depth to improve the experience of older LGBT adults in health care, social service and community-based settings. This initiative has been made possible by a grant to SAGE-RI from the Rhode Island Foundation through the Equity Action Fund. Each of the following dates focuses on a service setting.
MARCH 18, 2020 – Hospital and Primary Care
APRIL 15, 2020 – Long Term Care & Assisted Living
APRIL 22, 2020 – Community-based Agencies
Time: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
The Radisson Hotel in Warwick
2081 Post Rd., Warwick, 02886
Workshops will convey knowledge and best practice skills for meeting the needs of this growing but often invisible and underserved minority. Registration is open for all workshops in the series but will focus on service settings: hospital and primary care, long term care or assisted living and community-based agencies. While the curriculum is the same for each session, questions and discussions may vary. Participants are encouraged to choose a date most relevant to their work setting or interests.
Anyone currently offering services to older adults or conducting trainings focused on the LGBT community will find content relevant to their work. LGBT community members interested in learning about issues impacting the lives of LGBT older adults are welcome to attend. A program goal is to assist interested participants in becoming LGBT resource staff or volunteers.
The curriculum led by Professor Patricia Burbank, DSNSc, RN, FAAN and expert presenters will address key topics. All workshops will be held at the Radisson Hotel in Warwick, 2081 Post Rd., Warwick, RI 02886. Continuing education credits will be offered to long term care and assisted living facility administrators. Social workers will receive three ( 3 ) CE’s in cross-cultural practice. This activity was submitted to the Northeast Multi-State Division (NE-MDS), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation, for 3.0 contact hours of continuing nursing education.
Advance registration is required. The workshop fee is $35.00 and includes a full breakfast. Registration begins at 8:00 am and the program at 8:15 am. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/promoting-quality-of-care-for-lgbt-older-adults-issues-and-strategies-tickets-94073455237.
